No reproductionsDuring a family trip to Puerto Rico, I visited a horse stable in Isabela. My son and a few other family members wanted to ride horses by the ocean. The owner guided me and rode by my side during the tour. To ease my nerves, since I have very little experience riding horses, he conversed with me during the tour and sadly I learned he lost many of his horses to Hurricane Maria in 2017. It was heartbreaking-to hear his accounts and imagining these beautiful animals running to take shelter, some survived, some perished. It was bittersweet-as I took in the beautiful views of the trail thinking of these majestic creatures and what they had suffered.
