During the process of creating this art piece I pulverized pieces of pottery clay derived from the Taino tribe of Puerto Rico. By incorporating the clay in the mountainous areas of the map, I feel a sense of immortalizing my past and my people deeply rooted in me, in the island and now in the art piece itself. I found these pieces of clay in my hometown Ponce at the Indigenous Park in Tibes and was granted permission to keep them. I feel forever fortunate to have found them and use them in a very spiritual way.
