This painting was inspired by my visit to the Art Institute of Chicago to see the recent Georgia O’Keeffe exhibition, which showcased the works she created during her time in New York City. O’Keeffe’s bold, large-scale floral paintings — often interpreted as intimate expressions of the feminine — sparked something in me. When I returned to my studio, I channeled that energy into creating this red poppy on a grand scale. With its vivid scarlet petals and deep, compelling center, the piece celebrates both the raw beauty of nature and the unapologetic strength of the feminine spirit. It is my personal homage to O’Keeffe’s daring vision, reimagined through my own color, style, and voice.
